International Search - Regional Sales Manager, Europe

The Brief

Wallem Group are one of the largest ship management companies in the world. Norwegian-owned and with over 400 vessels under management, today they are headquartered in Hong-Kong and operate their European operations from Hamburg, Germany. Looking to appoint a senior Regional Sales Manager to develop high-value new business with major ship-owners in Europe, Sherrington Associates were brought in to conduct a thorough search of the candidate landscape and support Wallem to make an appointment.

The Search

In order to identify specific candidates with the relevant connections with major ship owners in Northern Europe, we leveraged valuable connections from within our historical network of senior level sales managers in the shipping industry in Europe, in particular Scandinavia which is where the majority of or client’s potential business was. Using a combination of referral gathering and targeted search we identified a longlist for face-to-face assessment. Once our preliminary interviews were completed, candidates were assessed using psychometric tools and interviews with our client were arranged.

The Result

Arranging interviews in Norway, Germany and Hong-Kong, the final shortlist was of an exceptionally high calibre, with the client commenting this was the most positive experience of using a specialist headhunter. Our in depth research and painstaking assessments with candidates in several languages meant that our client was able to conduct interviews knowing the English speaking ability of candidates was at the required level, that the candidates all met the competencies in the brief and matched the organisation’s cultural criteria. A successful appointment was made and Sherrington Associates provided crucial support with the candidate's relocation from Oslo to Hamburg where the role would be based. 

Shortly after the candidate’s appointment we visited him at the European HQ in Hamburg and received praise from the Head of Human Resources on delivering such a successful search project.

We needed to re-focus our own search efforts for a Sales Manager for Europe and engaged Sherrington Associates to support us.
