Sherrington MD Rob McKay was pleased to chair the first of a new series of member events for the Institute of Directors this week, focusing on the subject of 'Sustainable Leadership'.

As the world emerges from the pandemic, there exists a golden opportunity to address global threats that face humanity. Climate change has not gone away, but the forced pause imposed on the economy by Covid-19 has opened up the debate about how to 'build back better'.

In the first of this series of events for IoD North West, Rob invited guest speakers Ben Tolhurst - Head of Property & Asset Management for global property business 'JLL' and Director at 'Business Declares' a not-for-profit that helps corporates commit to sustainability, as well as Geoff Mackey, Director for Sustainability at BASF, one of the largest chemicals manufacturers on the planet.

This lively discussion was attended by nearly 50 members and covered the basics of sustainable leadership, addressing questions like 'what makes a sustainable leader' and 'what is the business case for sustainability'. The event was the first in a series of open discussions on the subject of sustainable leadership hosted by IoD North West and chaired by Rob.
