Sherrington are proud to be the retained search partner for Fera (Food Environment Research Agency) in their bid to recruit a new Business Development Manager for their Plants and Food divisions.

Fera is a national and international centre of excellence for interdisciplinary investigation and problem solving across plant and bee health, crop protection, sustainable agriculture, food and feed quality and chemical safety in the environment. As a newly established JV between DEFRA and Capita founded in 2017 but with a legacy of government ownership dating back decades, today the business provides a range of scientific research and laboratory services to customers across a range of markets within farming and regenerative agriculture including food producers and growers, as well as retailers, governments, academia and other leading research organisations.

Business Development Manager

We are looking for an experienced strategic business development candidate with a general interest and practitioner experience in plant and crop health, natural capital, sustainability, biodiversity and climate change, to develop and execute a sales strategy for growth with Fera's core markets.

Reporting to the Growth Director, the role will focus on taking to market, selling, and converting those propositions linked to the provision of consulting, expert advisory and testing services and applied research and development projects associated with Fera’s Plant Health, Environment and Land Management business unit together with other strategic growth areas.

The successful candidate will be an experienced commercial and business development professional with a track record of achievements in the agri-tech, environmental or laboratory services sector.

This may include all elements of the crop protection industry as well as the environmental testing services sector who work closely with UK agricultural businesses to meet the challenges of achieving net zero in the agri-food industry by adoption of regenerative farming and the principles of a circular economy.

The successful candidate will have a track record of working closely with UK and global businesses in the environmental, agricultural or food/ feed supply chain.
