Headquartered in Newcastle, England, for 35 years, Pearson Engineering have been at the front-end of providing mobility and counter-mobility solutions for Armed Forces across the globe. With over 200 employees across Pearson and their co-located sister company Armstrong Works, they have access to some of the most skilled engineering talent across the defence industry.
Today, Pearson provide interchangeable Front-End Equipment and other attachments that help armoured vehicles to breach minefields, clear explosive ordnance, protect against explosive devices, saving lives both on and off the battlefield. Strategic Recruitment Partner
In 2022, as the world was emerging from the Covid-pandemic lockdowns, Pearson were focused on growth. In particular they sought to build their commercial team in order to develop new business with key defence and security customers across the globe. Headquartered in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the market for experienced defence industry sales people was sparse, so Pearson decided to retain the help of Sherrington Associates to recruit a new Business Development Manager to the business.
Business Development Manager
Reporting directly to the Business Development Director, this new appointment would be responsible for targeted sales activity and bid management, cultivating relationships with defence industry customers across the globe. The candidate would need a strong understanding of the global defence and security industry, ideally from with an engineering / industrial manufacturing environment.
The Search
Using our proven research-based search methodology, our research team led by Joe Onions, head of our Future Leaders division, got to work mapping the regional talent landscape for suitable candidates. Tapping into valuable referral sources from our extensive network in the UK's defence and security industry, the team developed a shortlist of highly relevant candidates for our client. Using a combination of different psychometric assessment tools, along with competency interviewing techniques to determine candidates with the closest values alignment and the strongest sales abilities, after several weeks of search activity, the team presented a shortlist to the client and the project completed with Pearson commenting our support had been professional and impressive.
